White ribbon square dash
As I've mentioned before, I'm part of a yarn bombing group called "Wooly Riot". Our latest yarn bombing was due to be put up in the centre of my city's central business district on the 22nd November 2018. We were asked to support the "White Ribbon Square Dash", an annual event where local celebrities dress up in tutus and race around the square to raise money. Proceed were to go towards local safety kits for those forced by family violence to leave situations at short notice. Our group was asked to support it back in early September. That month 2 of my friends were victims of domestic violence so it was a no-brainer for me to want to support this campaign. The photos below give a hint of some of what we made in support. I will be turning my contribution into a pattern at some stage once the ideas have been developed further.
Sadly, the event was cancelled due to bad weather. However, our leader went out and still hung all of the scarves on trees around one quadrant of the Square as well as hiding some #palmyrocks with a white ribbon painted on them. Each scarf also had the "Manawatu Pledge" on a little laminated tag. Below are a few of the photos that I took when I went to look at the display with my children.
