Crochet stitch challenge 3 - basketweave stitch
Introduction
This has been a tricky week for my stitch challenge. For the first 2 challenges, I was working with just a single stitch the equivalent height of a single crochet. This meant that doing the increases and decreases was relatively trivial even with the loop stitch since I didn't have to do a loop stitch in every single stitch. There are also so many different combinations you can do for the basketweave from 1x1 to 4x4 and everything in between (including combos with uneven numbers eg 4x2).
I tried doing my squares in rounds and corner to corner a number of different ways. Initially, I decided that I would do a 2x2 basketweave pattern for the squares worked in the round and corner to corner. In some cases, the sides began as if I was creating a 1x1 basketweave pattern, just because I didn't want to lose any of the chances to add to the pattern since there are only a few rounds or rows in which to achieve the full look of the stitch pattern. Later I also made a couple of squares with a 1x1 basketweave pattern in the round and corner to corner so that you would see the pattern emerging sooner.
Since I've already posted about the variations I made in rows, I won't repeat the information here but there is a link to the post here and you can see some of the variations in the first photo in this post and below.
The patterns worked in the round and corner to corner are shown below along with brief instructions on what I did to make them (please note that they are not tested or written up as patterns). I quite like how all of the samples came out for this week, they're all interesting in their own way.
2x2 Basketweave stitch worked in the round
As I said in the introduction, to get more of the pattern I ended up beginning some of this square as if I was working a 1x1 basketweave just so I wouldn't have to wait until several rounds in before I could do a complete 2x2 basketweave (and then longer to add in more than one repeat). This square was worked until I had 12 stitches per side (the last round I added 4 stitches in each corner).
