Part 3 - Cars and Trucks CAL - Dump Truck Body

Introduction

This is one of a series of mini crochet vehicles I made for my children. The original dump truck tray was fixed in place but this version can tip and the back can open. I’ve included both options in the pattern although the yarn amounts listed are for the tray that can tip as I’m not sure the exact quantity of yarn used for the fixed tray but it should be similar to the tipping version.

In this part you will be making the main body of the vehicle.

Notions

Please note that notions are for the whole pattern and not just this part

3.5 mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

Fibrefill or other suitable stuffing (I used matching leftover yarn tails from other projects whenever possible as well as fibrefill)

DK yarn in grey, black, white, 1-2 colours (labelled colour A and colour B in this pattern though you could use just a single colour) and small scraps of orange or red (about 30 cm of each should be ample) for head and tail lights. I used “4 Seasons Marvel 8 ply” in the following quantities:

Black (Colourway 1002)                            17 m (19 yds), 6 g

White (Colourway 1001)                           14 m (15.5 yds), 5 g

Grey (Light grey, Colourway 1022)           23 m (25 yds), 8 g

Colour A (Twilight, Colourway 1016)       23 m (25 yds), 8 g

Colour B (Cadium, Colourway 1020)        25.5 m (28 yds), 9 g

1 small shank button (10 mm)*

2 snap fasteners (9 mm)*

Sewing needle*

Thread* to match dump truck and snap fasteners (I used black and red)

*These are optional if you want the dump truck tray to tip and open.
