Part 1 - Cars and Trucks CAL - Concrete mixer vehicle body

Introduction

This is one of a series of mini crochet vehicles I made for my children. The original version was all white except for a plain stripe on the back of the mixer. However, I decided to make it a little more interesting with some triangles and diamonds on the back. I have made this a few times in different colourways. Most of the photos in this pattern are from the version above but I have included a few photos using some other colour variations. While I have suggested using 3 different colours (designated “A”, “B” and “C” in the pattern), feel free to use fewer colours if you wish.  This has been designed specifically for a white cab with black to distinguish the windows from the rest of the cab. In part 1 you will be making the main truck body.

Notions

NB: Notions are for the whole vehicle, not just part 1. In this part you will only need black, white and Colour A

3.5 mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

Scissors

Fibrefill or other suitable stuffing (I used matching leftover yarn tails from other projects whenever possible as well as fibrefill)

DK yarn in white, black, and three other colours (Colour A, Colour B, Colour C). I used “4 Seasons Marvel 8 ply” in the following quantities:

Black (Colourway 1002)                                   22.6 m (24.8 yds), 9 g

White (Colourway 1001)                                  57 m (62 yds), 20 g

Colour A Twilight (Colourway 1016)               20 m (22 yds), 7 g

Colour B Purple (Colourway 1025)                  8.5 m (9 yds), 3 g

Colour C Cadium green (Colourway 1020)       5.7 m (6.2 yds), 2 g

In addition you will need small scraps of yellow and either orange or red (about 30 cm of each colour should be ample or you can use 4 small buttons) for lights. Alternatively, you can sew on small buttons

Size and gauge

Length: 14 cm (5.5”); height to top of cab: 8 cm (3.1”); width: 6 cm (2.4”)

Row 43                Sc in each st across, fasten off. (10)

At this point add your headlights (yellow French knots or small buttons) before you stuff and sew the truck together aligning the side and front windows for sewing together. I used a whip stitch to join the front of the cab to the rest of the cab.
